Guide

How the hours become marks.

Everything that isn't a date: the exam itself, the shape of a day, the score targets, the method, the books, and the ten rules.

What you are actually walking into

One thing about NEET 2027 is genuinely different from every year before it, and it should change how you practise from week one.

The big change

NEET 2027 is expected to be the first computer-based (CBT) NEET. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced in May 2026 that the exam moves from OMR sheets to computer-based testing from 2027, following the Radhakrishnan committee's recommendations after the 2026 paper-leak cancellation. The plan reported so far is a JEE-Main-style rollout — the exam spread over multiple shifts with normalisation applied across them.

Practical consequence: every mock from now on should be on a laptop or desktop, never on paper and never on a phone. And the exam date may no longer be a single Sunday — stay exam-ready from late April 2027. Confirm the final pattern and dates on the official NTA notification when it drops, usually around February.

Paper

180 compulsory questions · 720 marks · 180 minutes. Physics 45 · Chemistry 45 · Biology 90 (Botany 45 + Zoology 45). No optional Section B — removed from 2025 onward.

Marking

+4 correct, −1 wrong, 0 unattempted. A blind 1-in-4 guess breaks even. Eliminate one option and guessing becomes clearly profitable.

Syllabus

The NMC-rationalised syllabus (in force since 2024): 79 NCERT chapters across Classes 11 and 12. Check the official PDF against the tracker when the 2027 bulletin is released.

What a day looks like

Three templates. The clock times matter less than the structure: Biology on the freshest brain, Physics when you can concentrate hardest, questions on every new topic the same day, and a fixed half-hour of error-notebook work before bed.

Tests and score targets

During the completion phase the Sunday test only covers what you have already finished, so the total is meaningless — accuracy within finished chapters is the number that matters. Full-length scores start meaning something from Week 21.

Test rhythm by phase

  • Phase 1 — a cumulative 90-question test every Sunday on everything finished so far, and a 180-question checkpoint every fifth week.
  • Phase 2 — one full CBT mock every Sunday, without exception, plus its 3-hour analysis.
  • Phase 3 — two full mocks a week (Wednesday and Sunday), plus three past papers in the final week of the phase.
  • Phase 4 — three mocks in week 35, two light ones in week 36, then stop.

The 3-hour analysis, step by step

  • 1. Re-solve every wrong question yourself, notes closed, before opening any solution.
  • 2. Tag each mistake: concept gap · silly · misread · time.
  • 3. Find the ones you got right by guessing — those are undetected gaps and they will cost you in May.
  • 4. Note the three chapters that cost most marks. They become next week's evening slot.
  • 5. Check your per-section timing against the 55 / 40 / 55 split and adjust.

How to study, specifically

The calendar tells you what to do each day. This is how to do it so the hours convert into marks.

Books and platforms

Fewer books, more repetitions. When you are behind, the worst possible move is to buy another book.

Ten rules for the next nine months

When a week goes badly, come back to this list rather than redesigning the plan.

The plan is not the point. Showing up on the days you don't feel like it — that's the whole thing.
